Name: Melinda Bakken
Title/Department: Director of Campus Card Services and Person ID
F&O Start Date: 2004
Years at Carolina: It will be 22 years in November
Professional background: My entire professional career has been at Carolina. I joined the University in 2002, working in student support for the Dental Hygiene program. I became the PID administrator for the PID Office in 2004 and added the management of the One Card Office to my role in 2017.
Education: I earned my Bachelor of Science in computer science at Georgia Southern University – Armstrong Campus (formerly Armstrong Atlantic State University)
What does your job entail: In our work for the PID Office, we get to interact with many groups on campus, from processing student PIDs with their applications, to new and returning employees, as well as approving affiliates. We make sure that the person data for the University is correct and that each person only has one PID. The One Card Office produces thousands of One Cards each year for new students and employees, process meal plan sign-ups for students, set and control electronic building and room access across campus, and assist with installing One Card systems while utilizing new technology, like our new Mobile One Card. Between the two offices, we touch most aspects of campus! Of course, we could not make that all happen without our campus partners!
What is exciting you about your job right now: Right now, we are in the middle of first-year and transfer student orientation sessions! I love seeing all the new students come in and feeling their excitement!
What is something we may not know about you: I love games, from online to board games! They’re all fun!
