A project to install new One Card readers at building entrances across campus will begin in March and take several months to complete. The new card readers will use tap technology and users will no longer swipe cards for building entry.

One Cards issued within the last three years will be compatible with the new card readers, but older cards will need to be replaced and will be reissued at no charge. To ensure continuous access to facilities, card holders should confirm compatibility by reviewing the back of their One Cards:

One Cards with “HID Seos” mark in bottom left corner

Cards with an “HID Seos” mark on the back of the card already work with tap technology, and no further action is required by card holders.

One Cards with “ColorID” mark in top right corner or “PROX” in bottom left corner

Cards with a “ColorID” or “PROX” mark on the back will not work with the new card readers. Card holders should follow the steps below to obtain a new One Card:

  1. Electronically sign the One Card Use Agreement.
  2. Upload an updated One Card photo: Wait 30 minutes for Use Agreement processing, then take and upload a picture that meets the photo requirements. You may also have your photo taken at the One Card Office.
  3. Bring valid photo ID (driver’s license, state ID card, passport or military ID) to the One Card Office to pick up new card.

The One Card Office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is located on the third floor of the Student Stores Building. For questions about your One Card or the new card readers, please contact the One Card Office at 919-962-8024 or onecard@unc.edu.
